The Transition from Employee to Entrepreneur can be Difficult, but not Impossible…
There will be obstacles in the transition from Employee to Entrepreneur, let’s talk about some of them.
The biggest one is Fear. There are actually many fears, why, because it’s new, it is a new way of thinking. There will be new skill sets to develop. The good thing is, you won’t be starting with no skills at all. But we all start with a different set of skills in the beginning.
Comment below and let me what some of your fears are.
The First thing I want you to know is this and don’t ever, ever forget this. This is probably the most important thing for you to know and believe.
You are Enough!
You are Enough,
Believe it. It is true!
The fears that you will be facing are fears of the unknown. Since you were not taught the skills of an entrepreneur growing up or in school, there are a lot of unknowns.
“The cave you fear to enter holds the treasure that you seek.” – Joseph Campbell
You were however taught the skills of going to school and getting a good job. Work 40+ hours per week, bring home a paycheck that is less than needed to get by and let someone else determine your value. You will then be able to retire after 40 years and live a comfortable retirement in your golden years.
You know that was a good system for my great grandparents. Do you believe that it is true today?
It’s not, and if you really aren’t sure, then look at Wal-Mart and McDonalds. Who’s working there?
Have you noticed the difficulty in teen agers getting entry level jobs? The reason is, is because they are competing with over qualified “retired” people.
The employee mindset makes decisions based on past experiences and what he can see. This does not allow for growth or change. Which are both required to be a home business entrepreneur.
OK, so we agree that normal employment and punching a clock is not the answer. So how do we make the transition?
You are going to have to change your mindset from employee to entrepreneur.
This does not happen overnight.
You will want to read books.
You will want to find a mentor.
You will want to find a business and jump in and just do it.
Because the best way to learn these skills is by doing it.
By doing it you will start to meet the people that can assist you and build your network. There is no other way. But you will also want to continue learning all along the way.
Entrepreneurship is a journey. Enjoy the journey.
The biggest skill needed to change your mindset from employee to entrepreneur is Faith
What is faith?
Faith is believing in something that you can’t see. Unlike a job where you believe that you will work so many hours or at least show up, and you will be paid a certain wage for that time, you will now have faith that if you provide value to the market place, you will be paid.
Rather than time based, your income will now be performance based.
Unlike the instant gratification of a job where you know you will be paid by putting in the time, you will now need to learn patience and delayed gratification.
Delayed gratification is not something that is well received in today’s society, but is key to success as an entrepreneur.
Faith that you put in the effort today that it turns into income down the road. The activities invested will produce fruit.
As an entrepreneur you are looking for ways to leverage everything that you do by using systems, delegating low value tasks, etc.
As I am writing this article, I trust, I have faith, that I am bringing value to the marketplace. I trust that at least one person will read this and pick up a nugget that will help them in their journey from employee to entrepreneur.
That nugget could be as simple as me believing in you and letting you know, that You are Enough.
I am not getting paid right now for writing this. But I have faith that it will rank in the search engines. I have faith that I wrote this one time, but it will be seen by many. (leverage)
I have faith that rather than getting paid to write this article one time like an employee would, that I will get paid for this one effort over and over again.
Because I’m an entrepreneur and that is how I think.
I live in Faith and not in Fear.
Did this happen over night?
It is one step at a time.
One nugget at a time.
Falling down and getting up over and over again.
Learning the skills,
implementing what I learn as I learn them
and believing that I am enough and that I can do it.
I believe that you can make the transition from Employee to Entrepreneur too!
